Solutions
We can provide the following solutions to your efforts...
Consulting: Provide an extra set of hands to help with your Environmental, Health, and Safety projects. Brings own tools in terms of software used to track and optimize activities conducted.
Solution Architect: Review your existing systems, identify opportunities for workflow integration, upgrading to best practices, spec interfaces from LOB systems to Environmental, Health & Safety (EH&S) Systems.
Existing Technologies:
Barcoded chemical management, suppliers barcode inbound chemicals with unique serial numbers (10 cans of paint have 10 different container id numbers), suppliers send a corresponding electronic file of the contents, which is interfaced into the EHS system so that the contents of a container is known. Monthly, inventory is scanned and a mass balance is calculated for required Air Emission reporting. Waste containers are similarly barcoded and tracked; Expired Hazardous Materials are scanned into waste drum for packing list. Industry: Aerospace. Next CIP: Scan in/scan out for selected locations; investigate RFID to supplement barcodes.
Template-based Instructions: Applicable to a wide set of requirements, from User Documentation to Chemical Safe Use Instructions to machine Safe Operating Instructions, tool that enables the user to build Templates that are composed of Mini-Templates, that are composed of one or more statements, assemble the mini-templates into Templates, change and maintain them with minimum keystrokes, associate the Templates with other physical entities (jobs, pieces of equipment, chemicals, tasks, etc.). Templates are the minimum keystrokes to make a structured change in information, at the same time enabling Business Intelligence to be used to track what is the same and what is different across the entity being tracked (what do we train the same across all chemicals, what do we train different information for different chemicals, for example).
MSDS tracking: Key information about Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS's) is entered into tracking database; web page is provided to enable search for MSDS and display of manufacturer-provded image of the MSDS. Key module for all subsequent reporting and inventory module, since it determines both physical, chemical, and regulatory classifications of the chemicals. Innovative Aspects: Field to track cross-reference to Enterprise MSDS tracking system while maintaining facility-specifice information. Industries: Automotive, Aerospace. Next CIP: Structured electronic interface.
Waste Management: Semi-intelligent, enterprise-designed waste tracking, includes Profiles, TSDF Approvals, manifesting, container management, biennial reporting summary. Manages Generic Profiles, Generic TSDF Approvals, transfer Approvals. Enter key physical/chemical/regulatory parameters, system suggests appropriate Waste Stream for subsequent tracking, distinguishing between Spent, Discarded/Unused, and Single Sole Active Ingredient (P and U waste code) materials. Next CIP: Better UI.
Regulation/List of Interest Tracking: Load or upload the CAS (Chem Abstract Services) Numbers, apply against MSDS's, Chemical Inventory, regulatory thresholds; manages Versions, manages Groups, manages ambiguous CAS Numbers. Industries: Automotive, Aerospace, Hazardous Waste TSDF's. Next CIP: Find partners to maintain lists.
EPA EPCRA/SARA 312 Reporting: Conduct Threshold Determinations for SARA 312, import either facility or location amounts to apply against thresholds, enables Exemptions, De Minimis, Averaging, prints Federal form. Next CIP: Interface to EPA Tier2 Submit software, turn into Workflow.
EPA EPCRA/SARA 313 Reporting: Conduct Threshold Determinations for SARA 313, import either facility or location amounts to apply against thresholds, enables Exemptions, De Minimis, Averaging. Next CIP: Interface to EPA TRI software, turn into Workflow.
Interesting Previous Projects:
End-To-End Inbound Chemical to Outbound Waste Tracking:
Safe Use Instructions: Provided tool to simplify building Safe Use Instructions to supplement MSDS Tracking. Enables providing specific information for Spill and Disposal information. Web distribution to users. Minimum keystrokes to differentiate between chemicals that require different management and handling techniques. Typical facilty is able to consolidate 500-5000 chemicals into 50-125 sets of Safe Use Instructions. Creating a new Template only requires 10-50 keystrokes (other than typing the text that appears on the form). Nominated for Chairman's Award at Big 3 Automotive.
Safe Operating Procedures: For Maintenance equipment, provided a tool to simplify building Safe Operating Procedures for different types of maintenance equipment, ties to Preventive Maintenance system and specific Equipment ID's, create a laminated page of instructions complete with a picture of the machine. Successful in getting journeyman maintenance personnel to participate in review of the contents of the SOP's. Next CIP: Media-enabling these using Silverlight.
Hazard Assessments: For Production jobs, provided a tool to simplify building Hazard Assessment Reports for different jobs on the production line, resulting report shows Hazard Types, Body Parts at Risk, and Personal Protective Equipment. Template-based, changing a template identifies what is different compared to almost-similar jobs, minimum keystrokes to create new template. Next CIP: Workflow enabling so that drafts are submitted to the production department for review automatically when a change occurs, integrate with Production Design system so a change to the Production Process triggers review as well as providing "keywords" to identify potential hazards.
Enterprise Software Build-Out to Generic Software Product: Big 3 Automotive, 18-month, 23 programmers, came in on time and under budget, design and build on generic software to provide an enterprise product, distributed to 130 facilities.
Enterprise Architecture, Telecommunications: Evaluate existing EH&S technology and systems for major telecommunications company, recommend how to merge functionality in light of acquisitions.
