Thanks, Michael Hinckley, for organizing a great SharePoint Saturday Tampa. As a followup activity, we are starting a user group for the non-developer (for power users, business analysits, and "point-and-clickers"), to learn how far they can get with the new tools before handing things off to their "real" developers.

Join us for this new Community! We are going to be starting the community virtually over the summer, continuing our Lunch n Learn and Brunch n Learn formats, but only monthly; in the fall we will pick up with physical meetins that are broadcast via LiveMeeting.

Access 2010/SharePoint 2010-Better Together Overview,

If you haven't already heard about the Access 2010/SharePoint 2010 story, it is a hugely compelling one! (they did 5 sessions on it at the SharePoint Conference!)

They fixed all of the existing Access limitations by how they integated Access 2010 with SharePoint 2010 (have a comeback when your IT folks say Access doesn't scale well or isn't efficient to deploy). Further, Access actually becomes a tool of choice for large number of record queries and reports (>5000 records).

There are 4 components to the new Access 2010 story: the compellingly better UI and tools; backward compatibility (the story is awesome here!); saving your Access 2010 ap up into SharePoint 2010, at which time security, backup, and deployment are managed within SharePoint; and actually building Access web applications that can be run directly in the browser, do not require that Access be loaded on the client machine, and do not have to be run in trusted mode.

The way Access caches now actually makes it a tool of choice for large number of records queries and reports.

For IT Pros, there are tools for finding all the Access databases in your environment, so you can prioritize their migration into SharePoint.
